How do driving-hour packages work?

The lifecycle of an hour package

1. The school defines packages per category: number of hours, price, validity.
2. The student buys the package at enrolment; payment can be in full or in instalments.
3. Each booked lesson is linked to the package; on confirmation, the hour is deducted from the balance.
4. When the balance runs out, the school sells extra hours or sends the student to the exam.
5. The hour history stays on file — it backs the training records required at inspections.

Why manual balances fail

• A lesson cancelled late but still deducted, or one completed and never deducted, creates gaps nobody can prove afterwards.
• When the balance lives in the instructor’s notebook, losing the instructor loses the records too.
• Without a balance the student can see, the front desk answers daily calls about “how many hours do I have left”.

Common mistakes

• Packages without validity: students returning after a year claim hours at the old price.
• Deducting the hour at booking, not at confirmation — no-shows end up consuming the package.
